Located just 5 miles from the heart of Downtown Indianapolis lives one of the truly unique Pete Dye courses. Originally built in 1929 by Eddie Rickenbacker, this course had a Pete Dye makeover in 1993 that put it on the map for the golfing world.
This course is kept in immaculate condition with a rich history. The course hosted the The 500 Festival Open in the 1960s. Billy Casper won the event three times and Gary Player won in ’64. By far the coolest feature of the course is the four holes located inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Every review I read talked about how the course was in perfect shape, which is to be expected for the price tag. The standard rate is $210 and that seems to be for any tee time during the week and weekend. I could not find anything stating weekday/twilight rates. During the INDY 500 race or qualifying weekends, the price tag goes up to $250.
As far as amenities go, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of food and drinks. It appears they do have a restaurant and bar area but there is not much talk about it in the reviews or the website. They do have a large range and putting area to allow you to warm up before a round.
If there was a course to plan your golf trip around in Indianapolis, this is the one. However, it does not look like many food options here, so plan accordingly. The price of $210 is a steep one to pay, but where else in the country are you able to play Pete Dye golf inside one of the most famous race tracks in the world?
